How Cronus Zens works

What Cronus Zens is

Cronus Zens is a website for the Cronus Zen. It has a shelf of scripts, a Studio that programs them to your Zen from your browser, an Updater for the Zen’s firmware, and the Cronus Zens Club.

We do not make the Zen. It is made by Collective Minds, we are not connected to them, and you need to buy one separately to use anything here. You also need a computer and the Zen’s USB cable.

Free scripts on the shelf

The scripts page lists the scripts we give away, sorted by game. They cost nothing. You can read about every one of them without signing in; we only ask you to sign in when you program, download or share one. What you may do with a script once you have it is in our licence-agreement.

Signing in with Discord

You sign in with your Discord account. There is no separate password for this site. Signing in also adds you to the Cronus Zens Discord server, which is where updates are posted and where you can ask for help, and before your first free script we may ask you to wear the Cronus Zens server tag on your profile.

Programming your Zen from the browser

The Studio talks to your Zen over USB using WebHID, a feature of Chrome and Edge, and of other browsers built on Chromium such as Opera, that lets a web page talk to a USB device you choose. Nothing is installed on your computer. Phones, Safari and Firefox do not have WebHID, so they cannot reach a Zen.

Plug the Zen into your computer, press Connect your Zen in the Studio, and pick it in the window your browser opens. The page can only reach the device you picked. Then choose a script for a slot and press Program: that is the moment anything is written to the Zen. It holds up to 8 scripts, one per slot. The setup guide walks through every step, including connecting the Zen to your console.

What is compiled where

A script is written in GPC, a text language, and has to be compiled into bytecode before a Zen can run it. When you press Program on one of our scripts, your browser asks our server for it. Our server fetches the script’s source, sends it to our compiler, which runs on Cloudflare Workers, and hands only the compiled bytecode back to your browser. Your browser then writes that to the Zen over USB.

So the source of our scripts never reaches your browser. Where a script carries your name, as cz2K does on its home screen, the name is written into it on our server before it is compiled. You need to be signed in to compile anything.

A .gpc file of your own, or a .cz file somebody gave you, goes the same way. A copy of a .gpc you bring yourself is sent to our team, as our privacy-notice explains.

Firmware updates

New scripts need recent firmware. The Updater installs the Zen’s official firmware, the files Collective Minds publishes, over USB from your browser. Keep the Zen plugged in until it says it has finished.

The Club

The Cronus Zens Club costs $30 a month. It is sold through Paddle, our reseller and the merchant of record, which takes the payment, charges any tax, sends your receipt and renews the membership every month until you cancel it.

It gives you cz2K, our NBA 2K27 script, programmed to your Zen from the Studio; OLED Mirror; the Club role in our Discord server; and members-only posts and tools. The full terms are in our terms-of-sale, and refunds and cancelling are in our refund-policy.

When you get it

Straight away. As soon as Paddle tells us your payment has gone through, the Club is switched on for your account and the Club role is added to you in our Discord server. Nothing is sent by post and there is no key to wait for: open the Studio, connect your Zen and program it. If the Club has not appeared after a few minutes, tell us in our Discord server.

OLED Mirror

The Zen has a small screen. OLED Mirror shows what is on it, live, on this site, and gives you a browser source to add to OBS so your viewers can see it too. Your Zen has to stay connected to your computer while it runs.

The picture travels from your browser to your stream through our relay on Cloudflare, only while the Mirror is open.
